Tom Hanks-5-1024x767Hanks in his next role - the astronaut and commando Jim Lovell, in the docudrama Apollo 13 (1995) - was his first time reuniting with Ron Howard. The performances in the film and Kevin Bacon's portrayal were highly praised by the critics. The film earned nine Academy Award nominations and won two. In the following year, Hanks starred in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated film Toy Story (1995), as the voice of Sheriff Woody. One year later, Hanks made his directorial debut in the musical comedy That Thing You Do! The tale of the fall and rise of a 1960s-era rock group. Hanks is also in the role of a music producer. Time magazine's Richard Schickel called it "charming", while most reviewers agree that Hanks' performance earned him a spot among the top romantic comedy actors of his time.
